Dawson Falls sits at the top end of Manaia Road 14 km from Kaponga. The drive to the road end is through scenic native forest. Kaponga is an easy drive west of Stratford and Eltham.

This stunning waterfall is located within walking distance (10 minutes) of the Dawson Falls Visitor Centre in Egmont National Park.

4. NEW PLYMOUTH COASTAL WALKWAY

The award-winning Coastal Walkway is a 10km path that forms an expansive sea-edge promenade stretching all the way to Bell Block.
 
Ideal for walking, running, cycling or skating, or simply enjoying the view of the dramatic west coast, the walkway runs from the Hickford Park, Bell Block to the east to Port Taranaki to the west, with numerous pedestrian access points dotted along the way.

5. PUKEKURA PARK

Often described as the jewel in New Plymouth's crown, Pukekura Park covers 52ha (128 acres) right in the heart of the city and is one of New Zealand's premier botanical gardens.

 

6. SUMMER CONCERTS AT T.S.B BOWL OF BROOKLANDS.

The TSB Bowl of Brooklands is a unique venue comprising an impressive outdoor sound stage and a large grass amphitheatre set against the backdrop of New Plymouth’s Pukekura Park. The bowl is a spectacular venue for summer concerts and when night comes, visitors and performers are spellbound as the lighting on the stage and surrounding trees takes effect.

7. OUR FAVORITE BEACHES

There are wonderful safe swimming beaches, as well as more than 50 prized spots for surfing around the coast. The iron sands of the beaches are testament to previous volcanic activity and on a summer day there is plenty of heat left in them for an evening swim.

In 2007 Fitzroy East End and Oakura beaches became the first Blue Flag accredited beaches in Oceania.

9. CLIMB PARATUTU ROCK

One of New Plymouth's landmarks with fantastic views from the top!
The entrance and start of the track is on the Northern side and it takes about 15 minutes to climb. The track is a hard walk/scramble to the top but the views are spectacular and well worth the effort. You can see all of the New Plymouth coastline, city, port, and the Sugar Loaf Islands.

10. SUMMIT CLIMB UP MT TARANAKI

Mount Taranaki is the second to highest in New Zealand's North Island and stands alone in the west. It dominates the province. Rising 1500 metres from the highest road end, Mt Taranaki is a significant challenge. It requires a good standard of fitness, walking skills, physical endurance and respect to reach its summit.
